Founded in 1999, Transitions is a non-profit magazine and journalism training organization based in Prague. Our mission is to help build trust in independent, professional journalism, and to foster a critically minded, informed, and engaged public, with a special focus on the post-communist countries of Europe and the former Soviet Union.
We do this through the publication of Transitions — an online, English-language magazine, which provides in-depth analysis and opinion on this region — as well as journalism training and news literacy programs.

Over two decades of driving independent media innovation — from its roots as a regional pioneer in online journalism in 1999, to the launch of crowdfunding platform Press Start in 2016, and the first in CEE to launch on Newspack, a new publishing platform from WordPress.com and Google.
Over 15,000 working journalists and journalism students have graduated from Transitions programs. In addition, Transitions magazine offers on-the-job training, instilling our contributors with high journalistic standards. Our alumni serve as “media multipliers” — the seeds of change within their own organizations and societies.
Transitions provides professionally edited, impartial news coverage, opinion, and feature stories from CEE. Our digital magazine is an English-language international platform where the region's journalists can cover topics underreported in their often restrictive home countries.
400+ journalism training workshops, courses, and conferences in Prague and across the region. We take global journalism trends and advance them locally, and take local initiatives and promote them globally.
